2014 Winter Summit
BEMA adopted the theme of What’s New? What’s Next? at Winter Summit held March 1-2, 2014 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown. We introduced new sessions and creative presentations and invited bakers to talk about what’s next in the industry.
Both Saturday and Sunday featured BEMA-U sessions designed to help members become more effective in their business lives. Jody Cross of LeadersSpeak addressed speaking from the point of view of the audience. Henry Givray, President and CEO of SmithBucklin Corporation and founder of the “Leadership Institute" and the “Leadership Learning Forum” presented Leadership’s Calling.
Both BIF, the Baking Industry Forum, and a baker panel addressed what’s next in the industry. BIF presented Opportunities in Energy Efficiency providing examples of how energy and cost savings can be found everywhere in a plant. Michael Fronczak, Director of Engineering at Dawn Foods, and David DeCesare, Manager of Bakery Development at Panera Bread, participated in a panel on flexibility led by Mark Ungashick (Shick USA).
In addition, members of the IBIE leadership team – Michael Cornelis (American Pan), IBIE Chairman; Joe Turano (Turano Baking Company), IBIE Vice-Chairman, and Jacquelyn Wells (MDG), representing IBIE’s marketing partner – presented stats on IBIE 2013 and a forum for questions and suggestions for the 2016 show.
