Wes Luczak, Membership Manager for BEMA, had an opportunity to ask Jarod a few questions about himself and the organization.

Q: Tell us about the products and services your company offers:

A: Weber Food Technology is a second-generation family-owned company based out of Germany with 7 manufacturing facilities and 23 subsidiaries located throughout the world. With innovation being the company’s founding principle, Weber has developed many unique and industry-leading solutions in the deli, cheese, bacon, snacking, and prepared foods markets. From slicing to automation and packaging, through automated sandwich and snack tray solutions, Weber has innovative solutions that have been solving market demands for over 50 years.

Q: What is something new or innovative your company has done recently?

A: Weber collaborated with its customer and its customer’s customer, to create the world’s first and only fully automated sub sandwich lines capable of producing 65 million 12-inch sub sandwiches annually, with minimal labor. This solution revolutionized in-store sandwich construction and the cost model for retailers. This solution took labor out of the stores, increased the shelf life of the sandwiches, and dramatically reduced the number of throws the stores are experiencing daily. For the processor, the ability to meet the production demands in a small footprint with a significant decrease in labor was an immediate windfall in operating profitability.

Q: Why is your company a BEMA member?

A: We are new to BEMA, but as we look to find other customers that can benefit from the sandwich, wraps, and handhelds innovations that Weber has innovated, we believe that BEMA is an association where we can connect with these people.

Q: Which member benefit do you find especially valuable?

A: We are excited to learn more about the changing market needs and trends within the baking industry, how we as a partner can help, and the networking and member/baker meetings.

Q: Anything you want the baking industry to know about your company?

A: Weber Food Technology is excited to learn more about the evolving value-added processing in the bakery space and is looking forward to creating more innovative solutions to help customers meet those challenges.
