
The supply chain remains in great flux, making the importance of transparency between bakers and suppliers more important than ever before. Both are ramping up communications internally and externally to keep all involved informed and on the same page.

Another BEMA Convention is in the books and after 15 months of virtual connection overload, it was great to be back in person. One attendee observed that the connections, information and sharing that look place over the four days of Convention would take months to replicate in the virtual environment.

The new Workforce Wednesday edition kicked off BEMA’s Convention 2021 on Wednesday, June 23. The inaugural event combined the networking of Convention with the education of BEMA-U.

On Thursday June 24, Convention attendees received an in-depth look at how quick-service restaurants (QSRs) continue to adjust to intense and evolving changes within the industry. The panel of bakers and their customers shared how they are dealing with ongoing labor issues, transportation costs and erratic disruptions in the supply chain.

On Thursday, June 24, BEMA elected new members and renewed terms for current representatives on its executive committee and board of directors during BEMA Convention 2021 in Marco Island, Florida. Clay Miller was newly elected to the Executive Committee and Joanie Spencer accepted a nomination to the Board of Directors.

For the inaugural year of the newly upgraded awards, Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery and BEMA staff evaluated five snack products and five bakery products to see which new offerings would rise to the top.
