BEMA Board Member Spotlight – Joanie Spencer

Meet the newest BEMA Board Member Joanie Spencer, Director of Content – Partner at Avant Food Media and Editor-in-Chief of Commercial Baking! Joanie accepted a nomination at our 2021 Convention. Hear a little more about her, in her own words.

joanie spencerQ: How long have you been involved in the baking industry?

A: I have been covering the retail and commercial sides of the industry for 13 years. A baker’s dozen!

Q: Why do you love the business of baking?

A: This is such a collegial industry, and I have always marveled at bakery professionals’ passion for sharing their knowledge.

Q: What goals do you have for your board membership tenure?

A: As a journalist, I’m constantly asking questions. I want to learn as much as I can, and I also hope my curiosity will help the board discover new ways to serve BEMA and the industry.

Q: What trend are you most excited about in the baking industry right now?

A: Bread coming back into fashion.

Q: Can you share your favorite baked good?

A: Chocolate croissant … but not if I’m wearing white. I’m a terribly messy eater.
